Not all RV maintenance tasks need to happen at a professional’s garage. Some basic upkeep can actually be done by you! Simple checks and tweaks will keep your RV running smoothly. Of course, you may not be able to handle all issues, but you can prevent or minimize some of these problems. Below, we’ve compiled some easy RV maintenance you can do yourself.
Grab Your Manual
The very first thing you should do is check out your owner’s manual. While we can give you some general tips, your manual will give you important maintenance information that specifically relates to your model. You may even find a servicing timeline to help you keep track of all your visits.
Slide Outs
Slide outs are one of the many amazing features on modern RVs that have simply made RV travel more comfortable and convenient, but if you want to keep your slide outs functioning year after year they’re going to need some attention.
Once every six months or so we recommend you hit your RVs slide outs with a generous dose of silicone lubricant along the length of the rail and the runner. This will make sure that these awesome additions to your RV don’t grind to a halt and leave you feeling cramped. If you travel often and get plenty of use out of your slideouts, you will probably want to tighten the service schedule a little bit to accommodate.
Check the Tires
Tire problems are always a major hassle, and in some cases even dangerous. The last thing you want to deal with is a blowout or flat tire, and if your tires don’t have proper tread, you may even lose control and get in an accident. Make a point to check the PSI of your tires on a regular basis, and also check them over as often as possible to make sure that they’re always in good enough shape to drive around safely.
